Beschrijving

Shai Wosner (piano)

“There is no composer who binds the intimate and the grand so inextricably as Franz Schubert,” writes pianist Shai Wosner in an essay for his latest album. Wosner has established a reputation as one of the world’s great Schubert interpreters, with his earlier recordings praised by critics worldwide. This release completes his survey of the late sonatas and will be eagerly awaited by Schubertians everywhere.

Schubert:
Piano Sonata No. 16 in A minor, D845
Piano Sonata No. 18 in G major, D894
Piano Sonata No. 19 in C minor, D958
Piano Sonata No. 21 in B flat major, D960

"D845 here is a towering interpretation, Wosner’s absolute insistence on crisp, clean attacks a major factor. How unutterably intimate is the opening of the finale, subsequent contrasts brilliantly drawn. The great D960 is balm for the soul, notable for its thoughtfulness"
