“This magnificent production is a complete and blissful success. Don’t miss it.” Those were the words of the French website Classique News when Leonardo Vinci’s rediscovered Artaserse was staged by Silviu Purcãrete at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy. Complementing the CD version of the opera released in Autumn 2012, this DVD features no fewer than five of the world’s leading countertenors – assuming both male and female roles: Philippe Jaroussky, Max Emanuel Cencic, Franco Fagioli, Valer Barna-Sabadus and Yuriy Mynenko.

"The production takes itself none too seriously, the Baroque absurdities of the plot enhanced by absurd costumes...Fagioli rises to the challenge, as he offsets vocal pyrotehcnics with poignancy...[Cencic is] silver voiced and dignified, despite wardorbes that are more pantomime dame than Persian princess."
BBC Music Magazine - July 2014 ****

"It’s clearly a brilliant performance...with Fasolis and the Concerto Köln playing with furious energy and plenty of nice titivation in continuo and scoring, while the singing is almost uniformly astonishing...Perfect for drag-act falsettist fans."
