Oxford Camerata, Jeremy Summerly
Lasso:
Infelix ego
Missa Entre vous filles
Missa Susanne un jour
"The Masses Entre vous filles and Susanne un jour show Lassus at his best, full of variety and invention, music of an immediate impact; in fact, they display exactly the same qualities as the betterknown motets. The Oxford Camerata has understood this well, taking considerable care with the nuances of the text and really enjoying the music's rich sonorities. Sometimes a slight imprecision in the playing of chords is detectable, but this is more than outweighed by the sense of melodic contour and the powerful, somewhat dark and austere sound which conveys so well the spirit of the music. With over 68 minutes of some of the finest 16th-century polyphony available at such a low price, no one should hesitate."
